Have you ever heard the adage “it takes ‘X’ number of no’s before you’ll get a yes”?

Approx. read time 2.5 min.

If you ask ‘X’ number of pretty girls to go out with you, then you’ll get a date! or if you make ‘X’ number of cold calls then you’ll get a customer… You get the idea right.

So how many no’s will you’ll have before you say yes? How many laps past the candy dish before you’ve got a handful? How many times do you have to open the freezer door before you’re eating the ice cream?

A lot of discussion in the health industry surrounds ‘will power’, it’s all about strengthening the ‘muscle’ that helps you say NO to these unhealthy things. I’m all for being self aware enough to know whether you’re winning or losing battles.

I do however think that we’re not the only ones responsible for our health (or lack of)

The “it’s all my fault” approach to failed diet attempts has it’s limits in a society where there is always a McDonalds on the way home, a really good Sushi restaurant around the corner, a pizza place that’ll deliver you a pizza any hour of the day within 40 minutes and a pantry/ freezer full of things that are “fine in moderation”.

Avoidance is totally underutilized… It’s easy to forget how eliminating ‘the question’ altogether can be a really effective strategy. Addicts understand this better than most.

The fact is, you can’t eat what isn’t there…

Maybe take a new route home to avoid the McDonalds. Maybe quit Sushi and Pizza altogether. If you can’t demonstrate control while eating a food, you should think long and hard about whether you should EVER eat it again… More practically, you’ve got to clean up your home, your house needs to be a nutritional safe haven for you.

Here’s my challenge for you!
