So, you’re bloated. Everyday, bloated. You feel tired all the time, and maybe you get headaches often – or maybe it’s gas after meals. Or maybe you have had pain in almost all of your joints at one point or another. But that’s okay, right? This is how you feel everyday. You’re probably tired because you have a busy schedule and that’s whats causing your headaches.
I want to let you in on a little secret- it is NOT normal to feel this way. Passing gas after a meal does not, despite popular belief, signify a “compliment to the cook” (a term my family and friends use often).
So here’s some food for thought (see what I did there?!). Maybe, just maybe, its the food that you’re eating that’s causing all of the adverse symptoms I mentioned above. Actually, not maybe – I’d be willing to bet it is.
When our stomachs can’t digest the food that we eat, it hangs out in our gut until it ferments and feeds the bad bacteria (Candida). Candidas’ main purpose is to make your life awful. It attacks your gut lining until it’s inflamed and makes little holes through which it escapes and travels to the rest of your body. On it’s way through your bloodstream, candida causes symptoms like tiredness, headaches, bloating, and gas. It’s quite literally spreading inflammation throughout your body. 25 years ago, Candida had no meaning to most people – but now we have processed foods and refined sugars at our finger tips and all of a sudden feeling run down has become the norm. When I ask my clients what feeling “normal” or “good” looks like to them I almost always get the same answer and it always includes at least two of the symptoms listed above.
I want to change our perception of what feeling normal means.
Food is meant to be our energy – it’s meant to fuel us. But the only way it can do that is if we’re choosing wholesome foods that our body can digest. So next time you find yourself reaching for a candy bar think about this article, and think about how important actually feeling good is to you.
Here’a s few small things to keep in mind if you’re trying to reduce inflammation:
- Avoid breads, milk, and sugars
- Avoid processed foods
- Add warm water and lemon to your diet – this is very soothing for the gut and promotes digestion
- Try to find ways to cope with your stress (meditation, going for walks, getting proper rest)
If you ask me, the formula for health is very straight forward – avoid eating refined and processed foods that cause inflammation and feel great. No calculator needed!
